OBSERVATÓRIO DA ENERGIA

The ENERGY OBSERVATORY is an independent structure, promoted and managed by ADENE - Agência para Energia, within the framework of Portugal Energia, one of the measures of SIMPLEX+2017 program, whose objective is to position itself as a reference and excellence portal with information diverse and rigorous relationship with the energy sector in Portugal. Aimed at decision-makers, researchers and academics, agents and entities of the energy sector in Portugal, public administration, public and private companies, media and general public, the ENERGY OBSERVATORY promotes studies of evaluation of public policies in partnership with Universities and Research Centers, based on an online reference information platform on the Energy sector. The ENERGY OBSERVATORY arises from the recognition of the importance of information and the the access to transparent and rigourous information on the energy sector, and the need to make available to everyone a tool that aggregates and makes available data, statistics and energy indicators and enables and promotes the evaluation of public policies. The ENERGY OBSERVATORY has an Advisory Board made up of public entities and associations of the sector and a Scientific Council constituted by universities and research centers linked to the energy sector and to social and economic sciences, who will act as advisory bodies with the role of evaluating the activities of the Observatory of scientific character, such as studies and periodical publications.

Vision

The ENERGY OBSERVATORY intends to assert itself as the country's reference platform for multidimensional and unique information on the energy sector. It aims to collect, process and regularly make information available to a diverse audience - energy consumers, companies, industry players, public institutions, experts and researchers and policy makers - in order to enable the evaluation of public policies in the energy sector and the promotion and dissemination of public policy evaluation studies in partnership with university and research institutions, ensuring the transparency, rigor and up-to-date information on energy sector issues. The presence on the Internet will be the prime vehicle for communication of the ENERGY OBSERVATORY with all interested parties, and public events will also be promoted as forums for discussion of the different topics relevant to the sector and the country.

Mission

OBSERVATÓRIO DA ENERGIA

Measure #201 Portugal Energia, part of the SIMPLEX+2017 Program, whose implementation is committed to the Ministry of Economy, has as general objective the promotion of greater transparency, greater competition and greater dissemination of knowledge in the energy sector, contributing to a greater energy literacy, efficient use of energy resources and to reduce the energy supplier switching time, through easy access to free and independent information. This measure is made up of three components: (i) Understanding Energy, (ii) Saving Energy and (iii) Know more about Energy.   The ENERGY OBSERVATORY has the mission to materialize the Know more about Energy component, and in particular intends: a) Collect and process systematically and exhaustively existing statistical information on the energy sector; b) Produce statistical indicators to enable public, regular, updated and rigorous provision of aggregate information on energy in Portugal, promoting a broad discussion in society; c) Constitute a database with all the legislation, action plans, programs and other instruments that allow the knowledge on the configuration and trajectory of the energy policies in Portugal; d) Enable and promote studies on the evaluation of public policies in the energy sector.
